What happens when you’re a tired, jaded adult just trying to get by…and suddenly your fairy godmother appears, a few decades too late? (And what happens when you’re the fresh-out-of-training fairy godmother, thinking you’re off to help a kid in need?) Disney’s Godmothered.
Check out the trailer for the magical family comedy coming to Disney+ below:
Based on the trailer, Godmothered looks like a little bit Enchanted and a little bit Elf. (And a bit of Kirstie Alley’s Toothless, but maybe that’s too niche a reference.) Here’s the full movie synopsis from Disney:
Set at Christmas time, Godmothered is a comedy about Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell). Upon hearing that her chosen profession faces extinction, she decides to show the world that people still need fairy godmothers. Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) working at a news station in Boston. Having lost her husband several years earlier, Mackenzie has all but given up on the idea of “Happily Ever After,” but Eleanor is bound and determined to give Mackenzie a happiness makeover, whether she likes it or not.
Honestly, this trailer looks…really good? Like I’m a little surprised by how into it I actually am. It’s a fun premise, and the trailer gives the impression the movie will be suitably fun too.
To me, Godmothered feels like it came straight from the peak-DCOM (Disney Channel Original Movie) era. I can’t describe why exactly. Is it the actual premise? Is it the way it weaves the fantastic into everyday life? I’m not sure, but I am going to be watching.
Godmothered hits Disney+ on December 4.
