Good news for Roku owners hoping to watch Wonder Woman 1984. The company just signed a deal with HBO Max allowing the app on its platform.
When HBO Max launched back in May, it had two major availability gaps: Amazon Fire devices and Roku devices. Last month, HBO Max signed their deal with Amazon. Now, Roku joins the list of supported platforms.
Starting today, December 17, Roku users can download the HBO Max app from the Roku channel store. If you don’t already have an HBO Max subscription, you can also subscribe directly from the app. For users already subscribed to regular HBO on Roku, that app will automatically update to the Max app.
“We believe that all entertainment will be streamed and we are thrilled to partner with HBO Max to bring their incredible library of iconic entertainment brands and blockbuster slate of direct to streaming theatrical releases to the Roku households,” said Scott Rosenberg, Senior Vice President of Platform Business at Roku. “Reaching mutually beneficial agreements where Roku grows together with our partners is how we deliver an exceptional user experience at an incredible value for consumers and we are excited by the opportunity to deepen our longstanding relationship with the team at WarnerMedia.”
The deal with Roku happens just ahead of the release of the highly anticipated Wonder Woman sequel on HBO Max. The streamer recently announced it will stream the entire 2021 Warner Bros. film slate on its platform.
HBO Max is also the streaming home to popular TV series like Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, and Friends.
